Smith Creek Elise Falls
Smith Creek Elise Falls
Description
Like most waterfall hikes this one is better after rain or in the spring. Also, a great wildflower hiking area during the spring months. Has a bit of poison ivy and the trail isn’t the most maintained so plan accordingly. Hiking out is a bit steep making this trail a little on the harder side. The start of the trail is downhill (making the getting out uphill) when you get to the bottom you go right for the main trail or left for a shorter hike to Elise Falls.
Elise Falls at the Nature Conservancy’s Smith Creek Preserve (Newton County) is one of the highlights of the area for photographers and nature lovers. The preserve lies above Sherfield Cave (closed to the public because of white nose) where the largest colony of Indiana bats in Arkansas hibernates each winter.
